The Huddersfield Chess Club was founded in 1852 by John Watkinson.

For members wanting to play competitive games we have teams playing in the Yorkshire League on a Saturday and the Huddersfield & District League and Calderdale League during the week along with internal tournaments for the many trophies the Club possess.

Weekend congresses, 30 minute rapidplay and 5 minute blitz tournaments are also organised by our Club attracting players from around the country.

Membership fees

Members need to join the Lindley Liberal Club for an annual fee of £10 and then there's an additional £10 membership fee to our club for members in full-time occupation. £5 for Juniors, OAP's and students. 

The Huddersfield Junior Chess Club also meet at the Lindley Liberal Club on a Friday from 6:00 to 8:00pm during school term times but they are welcome to stay longer when the main club meets.
