The HDCA is an association responsible for promoting chess around the district by organising events for teams and individuals to compete in. It is the next level up from playing in your local club, the level up from this is the Yorkshire League run by the Yorkshire Chess Association.
The competitions for the coming season are as follows:-
The Watkinson League - this is termed a 'scratch league' where teams compete on a rating basis. It is played over 6 boards in order of rating and the winning team is the one with the most points scored during a match.
The Examiner Handicap League - this is also played with 6 players per team but teams are awarded extra points subject to the difference between player ratings. It is designed to encourage developing players and give weaker teams a better chance in winning a competition.
The Bill Lumley Rapidplay - this is a shorter time format competition.
Individual KO competition - this is an individual event organised into several sections for different playing abilities and is a knockout tournament so the winner of a section is the person who has won all their games.
All competitions and leagues will be run from September until the following May. We don't run anything between May and September.
